Anthropic faces cost of AI training data piracy, agrees to pay $1.5B to 7M authors

Anthropic will pay at least $1.5bn to settle a landmark copyright lawsuit over claims it used pirated books to train AI. The deal, covering up to 7m works, is the first major AI-IP accord and may set industry precedent. A court hearing is set for 8 Sept.
