The National Medical Commission has given in-principle approval to replace the percentile-based qualifying system for NEET-PG and NEET-SS with a rank-based merit framework. The proposal follows concerns over steep cut-off reductions to fill vacant postgraduate medical seats. A Supreme Court-appointed expert committee has also recommended changes to counselling timelines, seat allocation and non-clinical course admissions.
