Ottawa has launched a $1.7-billion plan to attract global research talent and reverse Canada’s long-standing brain drain. The strategy includes 100 federally funded research chairs across eight priority areas, major investments in research councils, funding for emerging scholars and $400-million for infrastructure. Universities nationwide will compete for grants based on past funding, with the aim of boosting innovation, economic growth and global competitiveness.
