Syria’s interim president, Ahmad al-Sharaa, visited Ankara for talks with Turkish President Erdogan on economic recovery and security, including the presence of Kurdish-led forces in northern Syria. Al-Sharaa, who led the insurgents that ousted Bashar Assad, was received with a low-key ceremony. Turkey, a key ally of Syria’s new administration, is pushing for the disbandment of Kurdish militias near its border while supporting anti-SDF fighters.
