University of Texas at Austin to merge four departments in major academic restructuring

The University of Texas at Austin is consolidating four departments, including African and African Diaspora Studies and American Studies, into a new Social and Cultural Analysis department by September 2027. This move aims to streamline operations and address perceived fragmentation. Separately, European language departments will merge into a new European and Eurasian Studies department.
