A US federal appeals court has ordered the termination of the SAVE student loan repayment programme introduced during the Biden administration, reversing a lower court’s dismissal of a Republican-led challenge. More than 7 million borrowers remain enrolled in the plan and were placed in forbearance during legal disputes. The Department of Education is expected to issue guidance on alternative repayment options. Separate legal action by borrowers and legislative changes could significantly increase monthly student loan payments.
