US Department of Education proposes major changes to student loans, sets new caps for graduate borrowing

The U.S. Department of Education proposed new rules to reform federal student loans, including eliminating Grad PLUS and introducing new borrowing limits for graduate and professional students. The plan also simplifies repayment into two main plans and allows for a second loan rehabilitation opportunity. Public comment is open until March 2, 2026.
